Maria has a friendly, calm and gentle approach to her work with children. She has a wealth of practical experience in working with children, parents and families. This experience includes over 20 years in teaching, lecturing, art-making, play therapy and workshop and group work facilitation.
Maria received her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Fine Art and Psychology from Rhodes University. She went on to complete her HDE (Pgp) at UCT and from there on taught art for over 15 years. During this time, she encountered many children with behavioural issues and through her drive and passion to find creative solutions that would effectively address the needs of children dealing with a range of psychological and emotional challenges, she was led to further her knowledge in this highly specialised field. While working part-time, Maria went on to obtain her Honours in Psychology (BPsych equivalent) through UNISA, as well as her MA in Psychology, specialising in Gestalt Play Therapy through the University of the North West.
